STEM Spark: Empowering Young Minds
Organized by: IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Student Branch – ITU
Planned Date: First/Second Week of December 2025
Planned Venue: Unprivileged School in Lahore
Objective
We aim to introduce basic electronics to students of an underprivileged school, spark curiosity about STEM, and provide hands-on learning through simple Arduino projects.
Planned Activities
- Welcome & Intro: We will begin with a brief talk on STEM and an overview of the projects.
- Hands-On Projects (students will build and interact):
- Smart Traffic Light Students will explore button-controlled LED signals to learn input–output logic.
- Water Level Alarm Students will see a sensor trigger an LED/buzzer for environmental detection.
- Light-Controlled Lamp Students will observe an LED that switches on automatically with a photoresistor, introducing smart-home concepts.
- Heartbeat Monitor: Students will measure their pulse with a sensor that blinks an LED in sync.
- Engagement: Every student will interact with sensors, buttons, and circuits while volunteers explain the concepts in simple terms.
- Recognition: We will distribute Certificates of Appreciation and serve light refreshments to all participants.
Expected Impact
We expect students to gain practical electronics knowledge, build confidence in experimenting with technology, and feel inspired to explore STEM careers.
Conclusion
STEM Spark is planned to combine learning and fun, motivating students to pursue science and engineering. WIE-ITU intends to continue such outreach initiatives.
