STEM Unlocked: Myth vs Future is a one-day outreach initiative by IEEE WIE designed to transform perceptions and experiences of STEM among young girls. The event begins with an engaging “STEM Mythbusters” session that challenges common misconceptions such as “coding is only for geniuses” and “girls aren’t good at electronics,” using interactive discussions and live demonstrations to build confidence and curiosity.
Transitioning from mindset to experience, participants explore the “Future Tech Zone,” featuring hands-on stations in Artificial Intelligence, IoT-based smart systems, and sustainable technologies. Each activity is intentionally linked to previously addressed myths, reinforcing learning through direct engagement.
By combining cognitive reframing with experiential exposure, the program creates a powerful learning environment where participants not only understand STEM concepts but actively interact with them. The event concludes with a reflection segment that encourages participants to express their insights and envision their place in STEM fields.
STEM Unlocked ultimately serves as a catalyst—bridging the gap between self-doubt and self-belief, while aligning with IEEE WIE’s mission to inspire, engage, and empower the next generation of women in engineering and technology.
