A 1-day collaboration event between multiple engineering/technical societies at the University of Southampton meant to expose new intakes, pre-university cohorts and first-years to the different courses offered at the University, as well as the various technical societies.
Each club organized its own booth with interactive activities relevant to their field for participants to engage with. Participants were allowed to roam around campus exploring each booth in turn.
IEEE Student Branch’s booth was a Circuit Assembly Challenge. Teams were given 15 minutes to assemble 3 different circuits using breadboards, power supplies, and components based on diagrams shown. Each circuit was designed to teach basic electrical lab skills (How to use power supplies, breadboard, how to assemble components, etc.). In addition, verbal explanations and physical demonstrations were given by our volunteers on good practices.
This event successfully helped to equip the new intake of EEE students with necessary lab skills, as well as exposed them to our IEEE Student Branch’s role in supporting and fostering the EEE community.
