T-PWRD Visionary Paper Series: Synchronized Waveforms – A Frontier of Data-Based Power System and Apparatus Monitoring

T-PWRD Visionary Paper Series: Synchronized Waveforms – A Frontier of Data-Based Power System and Apparatus Monitoring 770 430 ieeeeduweek

IEEE Trans. on Power Delivery has been running a new type of papers called Visionary Paper Series. It is designed for seasoned researchers to share their visions on a significant trend in power industry or to present innovative ideas/concepts that may produce a wide range of impacts. The subject of this paper is synchronized waveform data. Waveform data contain the most authentic and granular information on power systems.

Hydrogen-Electric Airplanes: A Disruptive Technological Path to Clean Up the Aviation Sector

Hydrogen-Electric Airplanes: A Disruptive Technological Path to Clean Up the Aviation Sector 770 430 ieeeeduweek

The aviation sector is at a crossroads, and several international agencies have put forth radical goals for its future. In this webinar, the future opportunities and challenges of hydrogen-electric aviation are presented. Recently, hydrogen fuel has been projected as a key enabler for large-scale electrification in future zero-emission aviation. In order to reduce the space required to store the fuel, liquid storage is the preferred solution.

DC Technologies for Grid Integration of Offshore Renewable Power

DC Technologies for Grid Integration of Offshore Renewable Power 770 430 ieeeeduweek

This video covers recent needs and development of DC technologies for the integration of large scale offshore wind power. Modelling and control of voltage source converters for HVDC are described for connecting offshore wind farms and for operation of multiple converters in multi-terminal DC grids. A method is presented to compare the reliability and economics of various types of converters with different power ratings, topologies, drives, cooling and submodule redundancy.

Dynamic State and Parameter Estimation for Power System Control and Protection

Dynamic State and Parameter Estimation for Power System Control and Protection 770 430 ieeeeduweek

Thanks to the widespread deployment of phasor measurement units, the development of a fast and robust DSE becomes possible. This webinar will present a comprehensive view of the DSE, in terms of its motivations, concepts, implementation and applications. The similarities and differences between DSE and other existing estimation methods will be clarified. Furthermore, the roles of DSE for power system modeling, monitoring, operation, stability control and protection will be demonstrated.

GLOW: An Open-source Distribution Planning Tool Based on GridLAB-D (Video)

GLOW: An Open-source Distribution Planning Tool Based on GridLAB-D (Video) 600 400 ieeeeduweek

The adoption of smart grid and DERs have grown significantly in the last decade. This leads to impacts on the grid that need to be analyzed. One of the most advanced tools for impact studies is GridLAB-D. However, a command-line interface is a common method to use GridLAB-D thus it is prevalent only among experienced users. We will provide the background policies, requirements, and use cases related to DERs integration.

Definition and Classification of Power System Stability Revisited & Extended

Definition and Classification of Power System Stability Revisited & Extended 770 430 ieeeeduweek

Since the publication of the original paper on power system stability definitions in 2004, the dynamic behavior of power systems has gradually changed due to the increasing penetration of converter interfaced generation technologies, loads, and transmission devices. In recognition of this change, a Task Force was established in 2016 to re-examine and extend, where appropriate, the classic definitions and classifications of the basic stability terms to incorporate the effects of fast-response pow
