Student Development Programme on “Unveiling the secrets of ancient Indian mathematics- a journey through Vedic mathematics”

One day student  Development Program on “Unveiling the secrets of ancient Indian mathematics- a journey through Vedic mathematics” was conducted on December 6, 2024 .The program was organized by the Department of Mathematics, Srinivas University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mukka, Mangaluru, in association with the IEEE Srinivas University Student Branch. The sessions were delivered by Dr. Krishna Prasad K, Professor and IEEE Branch counsellor, Srinivas University, Mukka ,Mangalore. Dr. Krishna Prasad K brought significant expertise in the domain of Vedic Mathematics, enriching the sessions with insightful strategies for mental math and problem-solving.

The SDP objective was as follows

            To introduce students to the efficient techniques of Vedic Mathematics, enabling them to perform complex calculations mentally with speed and accuracy.

            To foster creative problem-solving skills by exploring alternative methods and patterns inherent in ancient Indian mathematical principles.

            To cultivate an appreciation for India’s rich mathematical legacy, inspiring students to explore and innovate using traditional knowledge systems.

 

The program covered the following key topics:

The program started with a welcome speech delivered by Dr. Asha Saraswathi B, emphasizing the importance of Vedic Mathematics in enhancing mental acuity and mathematical skills. Also delivered brief overview of Dr. Krishnaprasad P’s credentials and contributions to the field of Mathematics education. Dr. Krishna Prasad explained Vedic Sutras with examples, simple techniques to solve addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems, Time-saving tricks for aptitude tests and entrance exams. The session ended with expression of gratitude to Dr. Krishnaprasad P, by the organizing team

 

The outcomes of the SDP were:

·  Enhanced confidence in mental math.

·  Familiarity with ancient mathematical techniques.

·  Greater appreciation for India’s intellectual heritage.

·       ·  Developed time-saving tricks for aptitude tests and       entrance exams.
