Speaker:

Theodore (Ted) S. Rappaport is a distinguished NYU professor in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Grossman School of Medicine. He’s also a Visiting Professor at Purdue and Fellow at Texas A&M. He founded NYU WIRELESS (2012) and earlier wireless research centers at UT Austin and Virginia Tech.

Ted authored key textbooks and his fundamental research shaped Wi-Fi, early US digital cellphone standards, and led the global adoption of millimeter wave and sub-Terahertz frequencies for 5G, 6G, and beyond. His work influenced FCC decisions to open new mobile spectrum bands (2014-2016, 2018-2019).

A successful entrepreneur, he founded TSR Technologies (pioneered software-defined radios, E911 location) and Wireless Valley Communications (site-specific wireless deployment), both sold to public companies. He advised Straight Path Communications, which sold 5G spectrum to Verizon.

Holding over 100 patents, Ted is a licensed Professional Engineer. He’s a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Inventors, and a life member of the American Radio Relay League (N9NB). He’s in the Hall of Fame for the Wireless History Foundation and IEEE Vehicular Technology Society.
