BMSCE IEEE – Grid Gambit
July 21, 2023 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

BMSCE IEEE SB in collaboration with Pentagram on account of Numero Fiesta conducted Grid Gambit on the 21st of July 2023 from 2 PM to 4 PM at CR606, 6th floor, PJ block of BMS College of Engineering. Grid Gambit was an exhilarating arcade-style event that blended the nostalgia of Minesweeper and Tetris with a captivating mathematical twist. The event’s primary objective was to challenge participants’ strategic thinking while providing an enjoyable and competitive environment.
The event commenced with the first round, titled Gemsweeper, which was an adaptation of the classic Minesweeper game. Teams competed on a 10*10 grid containing hidden gems alongside traditional Minesweeper layout in a 1 versus 1 game. The task was to peel off stickers on the grid and strategically acquire as many gems as possible by answering questions and analyzing grids. The team on each grid with the highest number of gems proceed to the next round. In the second round, Tetris Tactics, participants faced an intellectually stimulating challenge. Here, five sections of questions awaited the teams. Participants had to solve three questions from each section. Correctly answering a question rewarded the team with a specific type of block. Accumulating these blocks, participants strategized to create a square of maximum size. The team which created the largest square based on the scoring system won the Grid Gambit.
The event had a turnout of 26 participants, of which 8 were IEEE members and 18 were non-IEEE members. Overall, Grid Gambit successfully merged nostalgic elements and mathematical twists, creating a dynamic and engaging experience for the participants.
