Orientation on Geological Field Investigations & Field investigations at Panyam–Kurnool Highway Road cuttings & Orvakal Rock Garden
Orientation on Geological Field Investigations:
The following key features discussed in the connection to the geological field investigations of Orvakal Rock Garden.
• Importance of engineering geology in the civil engineering field.
• Effect of Secondary structures of geology in the foundations of major civil engineering structures.
• Local geology of Kurnool district and Orvakal Rock Garden.
• Weathering and its impact on characteristics with respect to strength parameters.
Field investigations at Panyam – Kurnool Highway Road cuttings & Orvakal Rock Garden
The following site observations visited in the field at Panyam – Kurnool highway and Orvakal Rock Garden.
• Sedimentary rocks are existing at road cuttings in the form of chronological beddings.
• Sand stone and shale type of rocks are observed in the form of beds with their Strike & Dip.
• Secondary structures like folds and faults are existing at the locations.
• Weathering effect is also identified at site, which is leading to formation and transportation of loose soil.
• At rock garden area, metamorphic rock type called quartzite is flowing with different Strike & Dip orientations.
• Quartzite seems very hard and some areas weathering effect is also identified. Different fault systems are existing
and these faults are causing to weakening the stability at locations.
• Drainage system is identified in the region at Orvakal Rock garden.
• Physical, Chemical and Biological weathering effects are observed in the rock garden.
